Business description:

An Australian owned global company focused on engineering and maintenance activities in support of military and civilian gas turbine engines.  Current defence work includes:

  • engine module heavy maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the GE F404 and F414 engines for the RAAF Hornet fleets, and Pratt & Whitney F135 engine for the world wide F-35 aircraft fleet. Plus Honeywell AGT1500 engine maintenance for the Australian Army Abrams fleet;
  • intermediate maintenance and computer controlled engine testing at the customers operating base:
    • engine fleet management and engine life optimisation
    • design engineering (DASR 21J organisation)
    • training
    • material recovery and repair
    • warehousing and distribution.

Projects / tasks:

Design of new engine support equipment or tooling, design of repair procedures to jet engine components, assessment of damaged components for further engine operation, use of design change management process (i.e. documentation of justification of design changes which are reviewed and approved by other engineers).

Technical skills:

Final-year students in either Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering, having familiarity with propulsion, materials, structures, thermodynamics plus given core units. Familiarity with mathematical modelling (VBA), CAD (Siemens NxCad and/or FEA (ANSYS) would be useful.

Intern interpersonal qualities:

The intern will be analytical, work effectively in a team environment, and be willing to learn.  Interns having experience with engines will be highly regarded. Should also be familiar with CAD.
