Internship Opportunity

Reference no: 2021.55

Location: Mawson Lakes, SA

Engineering areas: Aerospace/Aeronautical, Electrical/Electronics, Software, Systems

Business description:

We design, develop and maintain specialist Electronic Warfare surveillance equipment for use by the Australian Defence Force. These systems are based on Software Defined Radio technology and comprise RF electronics, high technology circuit cards (high speed analog to digital conversion; CPU, GPU and FPGA processing), custom user application software, and embedded software and firmware.  We are currently engaged in a number of Defence programs covering Navy, Air Force and Army systems at various points in their lifecycle including development, upgrade and maintenance.

Projects / tasks:

The intern would be given exposure to a range of projects and tasks that will be selected based on their education and interest areas. Tasks will be aligned with a formal Defence program and will contribute to a current or future capability. As part of the task the Intern will be exposed to the workings of the larger program to help with understanding both the assigned task and the operation of the Defence industry in general.

Technical skills:

Our ideal intern will have a background in Computer Systems Engineering and knowledge of digital signal processing techniques and concepts and familiarity with programming languages such as C++, Java and Python.

Candidates from Electronic/Systems Engineering are also sought, in particular those with an interest in RF, Digital Signal Processing and FPGA development.

Candidates from Software Engineering backgrounds are also considered, however our work tends to leverage concepts that are covered in more traditional engineering such as physics, mathematics and digital signal processing.

Intern interpersonal qualities:

Candidate should have good communication skills, be capable of working both alone and within a team, and have sufficient initiative to work independently/autonomously. Those with an interest in technology outside of their studies (eg. personal projects/hobbies involving electronics and/or software, involvement in technology clubs and programs etc) are highly regarded. Mature age applicants, perhaps those having prior exposure to Defence (eg. ex-ADF) are encouraged to apply. Local candidates are preferred to improve the prospect of employment following placement.
