Project scopes are subject to change. Key projects include;

1) Industrial Engineer – Design Phase for establishing new High Volume and Export Production Line, PFMEA, PCPs, etc for Defense Military Restraints. (High Priority Program for local and export contracts ramping up in Sept 2020)

2) Materials and/or Mechanical Engineer to work on a Military, FIA Quick Release Buckle and new Safety Belt program. Initial Design concepts completed, prototypes and testing completed against initial design. Design for production is next phase.

3) Mechanical testing support including potential test program development and execution. Opportunities exist to work with instrumented Crash Test Dummies and instrumented test equipment; Novel industrial testing for mining, defence, etc.; and dynamic, environment, durability, and vibration test programs for Automotive and Industrial.

Technical skills:

• Prior experience with Solid Works would be advantageous
• Industrial Engineer, ability to look at existing processes, look at practical automation opportunities. Understanding of the principles Production and Quality Control. Knowledge of PFMEAs, PCPs, Value Stream Mapping, etc. would be advantageous. Needs to be practical in their thinking, and optimise both Manual, Automated and Test operations.
• Materials and/or Mechanical Engineer with good knowledge of material properties and design to withstand dynamic forces. Good problem solving skills to address the current design deficiencies to overcome current performance failures. Understanding of plastics, metals and glass filled plastics and alternative low weight materials.
• Test Engineers. Skill requirements are relatively open. However an engineer with Kinematics interest, Physics and mechanical engineering are prime for these roles.

1. Working alongside our resources within the Explosive Ordinance Branch you will provide systems engineering support to a software implementation project for the EO Branch. This project is implementing a new system that enables the comprehensive configuration management of ADF ordinance across Army Navy and Air Force.

2. Our Framework Development: we have a generic framework for the re-engineering of defence capability acquisition and sustainment, which we wish to implement into a software based solution. This project requires the analysis of the existing framework and the design, coding and implementation of the solution. This task will provide the candidates an opportunity to scope, plan and execute a project to deliver the Framework reporting to us as the “client” as well as working along side the software vendor.

Technical skills:

Successful candidates would require a sound understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle and software engineering practices and have demonstrated ability to code and effectively test software. We do not require specific skills in a coding language, but a demonstrated working knowledge of software development tools, operating systems, systems administration, and database management is highly regarded. An interest and/or understanding of cloud computing (AWS/Azure) and relevant networking technologies is a bonus as is an understanding of Cyber and/or identity management.

Hardware Engineer:

An ideal intern would be passionate about electronics, hands on design, hands on prototyping using soldering irons, simulations circuits using LTSpice, designing circuits schematics and printed circuit boards with Altium.

The company will match the work to the level of the intern but they must be excited about working in a R&D hardware team that designs Inertia Navigation Systems.

Software Engineer:

The main quality for the software team is a demonstrated hobby for anything software. It is usually illustrated by a Github profile with a couple of interesting repositories. They are not looking for “tutorial” repositories (i.e. TODO app in React) but quirky projects developed for the sake of the beauty in software, technology, and/or problem-solving.

Embedded Engineer:

Applicants showing personal drive and an ambition to better themselves in embedded software development. This can be shown by personal projects, involvement in things like Robotics Clubs, Motorsport teams or other similar groups. During interviews we will test applicants on practical application of code to solve a problem.

For an embedded role they would expect the applicant to have purchased a microcontroller (Arduino board for example) and done a simple project with it.

For a non embedded role we would expect an applicant to have written a program to do something for themself or others.

Photonics Team:

An ideal intern for the Photonics team will have a background in optics and photonics, and who is passionate about using lasers to measure things. An interest in telecommunications, optical fiber sensing, LiDAR, or interferometry is desirable.

Experience with modelling and simulations in Matlab, Python, Zemax, or C will be highly regarded. The company employs a model-based design approach to photonic system development where computational models and simulations play an integral role.

You must be passionate about working with photonic and optical systems, and should have experience working with conventional test and measurement hardware (e.g., oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, etc.)

We have developed a model-based engineering decision support solution that provides the integrated analyses required to conduct engineering risk management. This program digitizes RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) and CBM (Condition-Based Maintenance) analysis to optimise the design and sustainment of complex, mission / safety-critical systems.

Projects / tasks

Development of our software solution including but not limited to:

  1. Research and specification of defined analyses and processes for safety analysis based on international standards into defined functionality and workflows
  2. Specification of analysis outputs to industry standards to ensure compliance
  3. Conduct of analyses on example system models to validate functionality and usability of the process

Technical skills

Ideally, candidates will have completed subjects on control systems theory.  If candidates have experience with programs such as Amesim, SysML, Capella, that would also be well regarded but by no means necessary.
