(Data Science and Machine Learning) Designing Intelligent Adversarial Anomaly Detection utilising deep neural networks for a custom simulation environment. We develop autonomous detection solutions for airborne search and surveillance applications with Defence and civil security organisations. Our core focus is software processing high resolution video in real-time but our solutions now extend to include design and specification of custom hardware to add cameras, processing and locational hardware to manned and unmanned aircraft. We have supplied solutions to ADF, primarily Army and Navy, and also provide solutions to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority. Overseas our systems are deployed with US Army, US Coast Guard, Canadian Defence and many other forces.

We are undertaking an innovation contract with the Defence Innovation Hub, called “Future ISR Sensing – Multi-Domain Optical Radar”

A  space  engineering  company dedicated  to  next  generation  space  operations, using machine learning and gaming graphics to greatly reduce the challenge of operating spacecraft. The company has active laboratories in Sydney, Adelaide and Colorado. We sell operations services and spaceflight software to both government and civil customers to include the Australian Defence Force, Fortune 500 and NewSpace companies, US Space Force, and NASA.  Our flight operations service, the “Responsive Space Operations Centre” (RSOC) is the  Australian Space Agency’s national mission control centre. We specialise in large constellations and fleet control (100+ satellite) and machine learning applications to space.

We have a Defence Innovation Hub contract to develop an intelligent data fusion network to process a large number of space objects. This is a Phase II project which combines machine learning with our heritage space operations capability for the RAAF.

Additionally, we run the Pacific Cell of SACT, which is a joint multinational exercise which involves the ADF, USSF, and French Space Command.

If the student can code we can teach them to do space: Orbital mechanics, spacecraft design, SATCOM, space physics. Students that can code and do space are high interest but preference is for C#/Unity coders. Interns wishing to go into the Machine Learning and Spacecraft Engineering streams should have a good knowledge of Python and/or C/C++.

Software Development Requirements: Python and/or C/C#, git, Linux environments.

Preferred but not essential: Cloud architectures and development, databases, microservices.

An intern will have the opportunity to contribute to a full systems engineering life cycle in one or many of these projects including requirements definition, system design, implementation, deployment and test. For R&D, we have an R&D agreement with DST Group which is the focus of our R&D efforts and is supported by other industry grants which focus on the SDA business line. An intern will have the opportunity to work with external industry partners during R&D activities to develop next generation capabilities destined for use by the ADF.

Business Description

We develop model-based engineering software that provides the integrated analyses required to conduct engineering risk management and optimization. We are developing Syndrome Diagnostics (SD), a causation-based AI software for real-time Fault Detection and Isolation in complex mission/safety-critical systems. The software leverages a digital risk twin and uses machine learning algorithms to detect incipient failures for system health assessment – an integral component of Predictive Maintenance processes.

Projects / tasks

Development of the Syndrome Diagnostics (and other) software solution(s) to monitor / analyze operational data required for system health assessment for sustainment (maintenance) optimization. The work will involve the use of different machine learning algorithms, such as SVM, Neural Networks, Clustering and their optimisation. It will also include some analysis and visualisation techniques directly contributing in the development of the SD product.

Duties will encompass development of a software solution to monitor / analyse operational data required for system health assessment for sustainment (maintenance) optimization by utilizing data science/machine learning skills and knowledge to detect, isolate, and visualize failures within a system using sensor signals.

Depending on the rate of progress, the intern may work on any of the following and more:

Business description:

An Australian engineering company that designs and develops systems for defence applications in the area of underwater acoustics. This includes sonar systems, acoustic analysis tools and recording systems which are supplied to Australian and foreign defence forces.  We are also engaged in R&D programs related to this domain.

We have a number of projects running concurrently including provision of systems to the Australian submarine force, sonobuoy processing systems to foreign naval customers and acoustic analysis systems to defence analysis agencies. We also have a number of in-service support contracts that provide ongoing engineering work related to deployed systems. There are several R&D projects progressing new and evolving technologies for defence applications.
