Projects / tasks:

The intern will be involved in generating designs, prototyping and preparing design documentation for advanced technical packaging solutions in support of air, land and sea forces. The intern will have opportunity to own a project from when our company receives the order until the delivery of the design and subsequent packaging solution to defence. This will include liaising with other internal departments to ensure that the project progresses as required.

Technical skills:

Solidworks would be an advantage, however understanding a similar CAD system will be sufficient.

A mechanical or materials engineering background would be beneficial, however of more importance is someone with the right attitude and desire to learn whilst here.

  • Design, development and testing of factory automation software including interfacing between production operators, Laser Guided Vehicle and robotic cells. Also includes job scheduling/priority, safety integration and HMI design.
  • Assist with installation and implementation of automated polishing cell. Design of custom tooling for automated propeller polishing operations.
  • Research, document and present emerging propulsion technology developments to the Propulsion Team.
  • Development and design of a propeller removal/installation device for metric series of propeller.
  • Development of a CFD model for prediction of propeller flow phenomenon. Including pitch altering devices and hydrodynamics performance analysis.

Technical skills:

  • Programming skills (C#, python) preferred but not essential.
  • 3D modelling and drafting experience. (Solidworks preferred but not essential)
  • CFD Modelling (ANSYS CFX/Fluent) experience is ideal but not essential.

The project involves observing the manual metallic processing of manufactured parts, and designing and implementing workflow processes and equipment which accelerate the schedule but without compromising safety or quality. The project feeds into our existing F-35 JSF manufacturing and maintenance program, and assures our ongoing competitiveness for future JSF export opportunities.

2. Design of component repairs and test fixtures to support the maintenance of the F/A-18 Hornet, MH60R Romeo, CH-47 Chinook and other Defence platforms. Rosebank Engineering is a global leader in the design and implementation of Additive Material (AM) repairs for the FA-18 Hornet. We are constantly seeking to reduce reliance on traditional repairs, and to increase our AM repair capabilities to include an additional range of components and structures. The project involves redesigning traditional repairs using AM technology. The project feeds into our existing F-18, CH-47 and MH-60R Romeo maintenance programs, and assures our ongoing competitiveness for future F-35 JSF and MH-60R Romeo maintenance export opportunities.
