Our company is a locally owned and operated consulting company based in Medowie, NSW near RAAF Base Williamtown. We specialise in providing project, engineering, logistics, commercial test and evaluation and maintenance management service. Our core focus is providing services to the Department of Defence while also supporting the private sector with project management and business improvement support.

Projects / tasks:

The intern will be undertaking the second stage of the Autonomous Passive Surveillance and Tracking project. Our 2022-2023 interns completed the first stage of this project.

The second stage of the project aims to extend the current capabilities to include a decentralised system to enable processing on the edge. Developing a platform agnostic user-facing interface to allow the system to perform various tasks around the saving, retrieving, and playing back of recorded media when the system has been triggered.

Projects / tasks:

This project will help our company build software tools, simulation assets and scenarios which are used to create and improve synthetic imagery which will be used to develop AI technologies for sighting and vision systems.

This work will be in support of a collaborative project between our company’s research staff and the University of Adelaide which aims to demonstrate next generation coordinated autonomous sensing of naval assets in dynamic maritime environments.

The interns are expected to have knowledge and experience of either computer games development or deep learning for machine vision applications.

The interns will have the freedom to propose and explore a number of options and approaches and will be guided and supported by engineers and scientists in our Research and Technology team. Further, they will have the opportunity for significant collaborative engagement with PhD students and a Postdoc at the University of Adelaide.

They will put what they have learned to use to generate tools to support this naval centric research project, consider, and propose opportunities for further development of this technology.

We are a space engineering company dedicated to next generation space operations, using machine learning and gaming graphics to greatly reduce the challenge of operating spacecraft. The company has 40 employees and active laboratories in Sydney, Adelaide and Colorado. We sell operations services and spaceflight software to both government and civil customers to include the Australian Defence Force, Fortune 500 and NewSpace companies, US Space Force, and NASA. The Australian Space Agency selected our flight operations service called the “Responsive Space Operations Centre” (RSOC) for their national mission control centre. We specialise in large constellations and fleet control (100+ satellite) and machine learning applications to space.

Projects / tasks:

There are a wide range of tasks for space that interns can participate in, including machine learning, spacecraft design, orbital analysis and cloud computing for spacecraft command and control. Prior interns worked on space weather analytics to fill gaps in critical data, orbital mechanics, the design of large 100+ constellations, and spacecraft design.

Technical skills:

If the student can code we can teach them to do space: Orbital mechanics, spacecraft design, SATCOM, space physics.

Students that can code and do space are high interest but preference is for C#/Unity coders. Interns wishing to go into the Machine Learning and Spacecraft Engineering streams should have a good knowledge of Python and/or C/C++.

Software Development Requirements: Python and/or C/C#, git, Linux environments,

Preferred but not essential: Cloud architectures and development, databases, microservices.
