Industry Host Benefits
By participating in the DIIP, defence industry hosts are supporting emerging engineering and technology talent while contributing to the development of Australia’s future sovereign defence industry workforce.
By hosting an intern, organisations gain additional capability, fresh perspectives and a potential pathway for future recruitment, while providing students with valuable industry experience and exposure to real-world defence projects.
DIIP industry hosts receive a range of benefits including:
- Financial support, through the reimbursement of intern wages, set at $1,239.38 for a 37.5-hour week* for FY 2026/27
- An additional payment of $565.78 per week to cover hosting costs and overheads
- Access to motivated Australian university students nearing degree completion, who bring current knowledge and skills in engineering and technology
- The opportunity to contribute to building critical skills and capabilities by supporting the development of the next generation of defence industry professionals
- Leveraging a proven pathway for future graduate employment outcomes
- Participation in a structured internship program with expert support in recruitment, placement, and ongoing intern management
- Helping to strengthen diversity and inclusion across the defence industry workforce
“The DIIP program has been an outstanding success for CBG Systems in our first year being involved.
Our Intern, Liam, quickly demonstrated he was highly capable which enabled us to allocate a variety of complex technical tasks which he completed to a high standard independently.
The overall process was smooth with support easily available as required. We look forward to participating in the DIIP program in the future and strongly encouraged other SMEs to consider it.”
