Engineering Internship
Industry Hosts are required to offer successful applicants with the opportunity to undertake a paid 12-week (450 hour) internship on a full-time or part-time basis between December 2024 and the end of May 2025. Host organisations must be able to offer meaningful work experience on interesting work-based tasks or projects, as well as high quality supervision. The purpose of the DIIP is to offer students with exposure to career pathways within the defence industry, with the goal of motivating students to seek graduate roles at the conclusion of their studies.
The Engineering stream requires internship experiences across a range of disciplines including:
- Aerospace/Aeronautical
- Chemical
- Civil
- Data Science
- Electrical/Electronics
- Industrial/Manufacturing
- Machine Learning
- Maritime
- Materials
- Mechatronic
- Mechanical
- Software/Systems
Substantial support is provided to host organisations by The Career Network, a company with extensive experience in the delivery of student career development programs. The Career Network have been appointed by Defence to administer the DIIP and to facilitate a positive experience for both interns and Defence Industry Hosts by:
- managing the recruitment, matching, and placement of suitable candidates to meet specific industry host needs
- monitoring the student placement for the duration of the internship to assess progress and provide guidance
- offering ongoing assistance and pastoral care for interns, as well as support and resources for Industry Hosts
- resolving operational issues encountered by the Interns or the industry host, to ensure a seamless experience for all stakeholders
The DIIP supports the placement of 90 Engineering Interns with Industry Hosts nationally between December 2024 and May 2025.
