EOI Process

The DIIP Industry Host EOI process involves structured steps to ensure that Industry Hosts can participate positively and effectively in the program. Each stage is described on this page to assist Industry Hosts to prepare effectively for each selection task.

1. Expression of Interest

To commence the process of participating in the DIIP and becoming an approved industry host, the first step is completing an online Expression of Interest (EOI) Form, to provide some background on your organisation and ability to effectively host a DIIP intern. Once this form is completed, within 48 hours (Monday to Friday) The Career Network DIIP team will be in contact to discuss and gather additional information on the type of work that could be undertaken by an Intern within your organisation.

2. Industry Host Assessment

During your EOI discussion, the Program Manager will complete a formal Industry Host Assessment, aligned to the Industry Host Eligibility Criteria detailed in the website. In partnership with Defence, this information will be utilised to assess each Industry Host Application and to ensure that organisations both meet the eligibility criteria and are able to offer a meaningful and well supervised student placement. The Program Manager will call each organisation who has made an EOI to discuss the outcome of their assessment.

3. Detailed Host and Internship offering

Once an organisation is assessed as suitable to become an Industry Host, a link will be provided for the completion of a detailed Host Application Form and Work Plan detailing the internship offering to matched Interns. After completing the Application Form and Work Plan, a video call will be scheduled for more targeted discussion, and to assess compliance criteria. The information provided will be reviewed and approved and form the basis for successful matching of the Industry Host with a suitable Intern.

4. Defence Industry Host and Intern Matching

Based on each successful student applicant’s study discipline, unique capabilities, internship preferences and career intentions, the DIIP selection team will carefully match each Intern with an Industry Host. This process will ensure strong alignment between the student’s background and requirements, and that of the Defence Industry organisation to ensure that the placement is mutually beneficial and rewarding.

5. Internship Onboarding

An onboarding meeting will be scheduled between the Industry Host and their matched Intern/s to review the details of the Internship Proposal and to establish an organisation specific onboarding process. The intent of this meeting, facilitated by The Career Network, will be to ensure that both the Industry Host and Intern can confidently commence the internship, with a comprehensive understanding of logistical, quality and compliance requirements and key internship management processes.
Interns will commence their 12-week (450 hour) placements from early December 2024 with all placements to conclude by the end of May 2025.
