Supporting the DIIP
University Faculties, Work Integrated Learning Teams and Career Services can engage with the DIIP by familiarising eligible students with the availability of Defence Industry internships and the benefits of DIIP participation.
The DIIP has existed for over 12 years, in various forms, offering high quality, paid placements to over 1000 undergraduate students, providing meaningful work experiences and showcasing genuine career pathways within an exciting and important growth sector. Currently focused on the provision of internships to third and fourth year undergraduate engineering and technology students, the DIIP aims to complement course curriculum, provide high quality and practical work-based experiences, expand the employability skills of students and support graduate employment outcomes.
The DIIP team can support universities by:
- Participating in Career Fairs and Events to build student knowledge of the DIIP and career pathways in the Australian defence industry
- Providing an internship model that meets curriculum needs for practical industry experience
- Tailoring the DIIP experience to align to the requirements of Work Integrated Learning frameworks
- Engaging with university stakeholders to build their knowledge of the Australian defence iIndustry and graduate career pathways
- Offering a program that builds student employability through a tangible work based experience, that facilitates the development of both enterprise and technical skills, enhancing the graduate employment prospects of participants
